about the key to dealing with bullies.

of how to deal with bullies and what God wants

- It's a long story. - Okay.

- The book of Daniel is a story of a faithful man

and the unmatched power of God.

00:01:04

After being taken captive from their home city,

00:01:06

Jerusalem, to an unknown land called Babylon,

00:01:09

four very special royal Israelites

00:01:11

were chosen to serve the king.

00:01:13

Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.

00:01:16

Today we focus on Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah,

00:01:20

better known as Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego,

00:01:22

or the three Hebrew boys.

00:01:26

The King of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar, loved himself

00:01:29

so much that he put a huge statue

00:01:32

to remind people of his imperial power.

00:01:34

And he wanted everyone to worship it

00:01:36

whenever they heard the special music. Everyone.

00:01:41

But the Hebrew boys, men, Boyz II Men,

00:01:45

they were not about it.

00:01:46

Today we explore their story

00:01:48

and what it means for our life.

00:01:58

- Don't you hate bullies?

00:02:00

I've never met anyone who actually likes them.

00:02:03

Well, see, I found the key to standing up to them.

00:02:07

Hey, I'm Hannah Driskill,

and today we're going to talk about bullies.

And before you check out, I promise you, you have one.

Now, maybe you don't call it a bully

00:02:16

because you know you're like an adult,

00:02:18

but I promise you that you have one.

00:02:21

And maybe it's not the kid in the hallway anymore

00:02:23

who steals your lunch money,

00:02:25

but it could be the person at work

00:02:27

who takes credit for your ideas over and over,

00:02:30

even after you've talked to them.

00:02:32

It's the person who won't listen to your feelings

00:02:35

and your side of the story,

00:02:36

even after you've asked them to

00:02:38

and you told them how it makes you feel.

00:02:40

Listen, I can talk about bullies because,

00:02:52

well, one, I was a bully, believe it or not.

00:02:56

And two, I missed my opportunity to stop one.

00:02:58

And finally, I've got about four bullies

00:03:01

that I'm dealing with right now as I talk to you.

00:03:04

See, about the year 2000, I was a bully. Yep, me.

00:03:08

Now I was only about four years old,

00:03:10

but I still remember it.

00:03:11

I bullied this kid named Imani Newsome.

00:03:14

And I'll never forget it.

00:03:16

I'll never forget her because I used to tease her

00:03:18

every single day, maybe about her clothes,

00:03:20

about her hair, but mostly about the fact

00:03:23

that she was the quietest kid in the class.

00:03:26

And I'm ashamed to say it,

00:03:27

but I even used to pinch her during nap time

00:03:30

as a way to threaten her from snitching on me

00:03:33

to our teacher, Miss Smith.

00:03:35

Even though I was a small four year old,

00:03:37

I was a big bully because I wanted Imani

00:03:39

to feel worse than me for being who she was.

00:03:43

Then, when I was in high school, I actually

00:03:46

missed my shot to stand up to a bully.

00:03:49

See, I had given up my bullying days.

00:03:51

I had changed my ways.

00:03:52

And there was this kid named Gameiro.

00:03:54

Now he was a nice guy, but he was pretty eccentric.

00:03:57

He walk differently, he talk differently.

00:03:59

But most of all, he dressed differently.

00:04:02

And he was an oddball, for sure.

00:04:05

And he was bullied for it, sometimes violently.

00:04:08

Now, while I was never an active bully to Gameiro,

00:04:11

like I said, I gave up my bullying ways.

00:04:13

I also never stopped it.

00:04:16

And there was this one specific time that I remember

00:04:19

God was nudging me and nudging me

00:04:21

clearly to stand up for Him and to stop the bullying,

00:04:25

and I choked. I simply couldn't do it.

00:04:28

Instead of standing up,

00:04:30

I actually cracked under the pressure,

00:04:32

caring more about what my associates thought of me

00:04:35

than being obedient to God.

00:04:37

You know, I think standing up to bullies

00:04:39

or simply not being a bully

00:04:41

might sound easier than it actually is.

00:04:44

I think we all would like to be

00:04:46

people who stand up to bullies.

00:04:47

We all would like to be people who fight injustices.

00:04:50

But I think at the same time, in the back of our minds,

00:04:53

we fear that if the time came to actually do it,

00:04:57

we'd miss our shot.

00:04:59

But if you want to be a courageous person,

00:05:01

a person of integrity,

00:05:02

a person who is obedient to God even when it's hard,

00:05:06

then you're going to have to stand up to some bullies.

00:05:09

And I think today's story will give you and I

00:05:11

the key that we need to stand up

00:05:13

to our biggest, scariest bullies.

00:05:17

So let me set the stage for you.

00:05:19

We've been talking about the book of Daniel

00:05:21

and looking at his life

00:05:22

and exploring what it means for our lives.

00:05:25

Now what's happened to date is that this guy

00:05:27

named King Nebuchadnezzar had plundered

00:05:29

and conquered the city of Jerusalem.

00:05:31

This is also the city where God's chosen people,

00:05:34

the Jews, the Israelites lived.

00:05:36

And when he conquered it, he took a lot of stuff.

00:05:39

Most of it was material, but he also took some people

00:05:42

that he considered to be the cream of the crop,

00:05:45

the brightest, the smartest, and the most handsome.

00:05:47

And he chose them to come and serve him in his palace.

00:05:52

Now these folks names were Daniel

00:05:54

and some of his friends Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah,

00:05:58

better known by their Babylonian given names

00:06:01

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.

00:06:04

But if you're like me,

00:06:05

you grew up calling him a bad Negro. Same difference.

00:06:08

See, they were chosen to serve the king

00:06:10

who believe nothing like they believed.

00:06:13

And today we're going to learn how they stay faithful,

00:06:15

even in the midst of that.

00:06:17

So you might imagine King Nebuchadnezzer,

00:06:20

this big conqueror. Yep, he's a big deal.

00:06:22

And you know what?

00:06:23

He actually has the proof to back up

00:06:26

that he is a big deal,

00:06:27

but he wants everyone around him to know it.

00:06:29

So he sets up this 90 foot high and this 9 foot wide

00:06:33

gold statue to flex his imperial power.

00:06:37

Daniel 3 says:

00:07:01

You see, King Nebuchadnezzar possessed a quality

00:07:04

that is a clear indicator that he was a bully.

00:07:08

He had insecurity.

00:07:11

No, not the show with Issa Rae, insecurity.

00:07:14

See this Scripture is saying that King Nebuchadnezzar

00:07:17

was so convinced of his power that not only

00:07:19

did he put up this large gold image,

00:07:22

but he invited everybody who was worth anything

00:07:25

to come and see it.

00:07:26

He essentially is hosting the equivalent

00:07:28

of the Babylonian Met Gala,

00:07:30

the Who's Who Party of the Year.

00:07:33

And even though it seems like it,

00:07:35

he doesn't just put this statue up

00:07:37

so people can come party and tell them how great he is,

00:07:39

although they do that.

00:07:41

He puts up the statue because he is insecure.

00:07:45

See just one chapter before in Daniel 2,

00:07:48

King Nebuchadnezzar had a very scary dream

00:07:51

that Daniel helped interpret for him.

00:07:53

The gist of the dream is simple:

00:07:55

it's that his kingdom was not as powerful

00:07:58

as he thought it was, and there was a time stamp on it.

00:08:01

In the dream, there was a statue made of gold,

00:08:04

silver, bronze, iron and clay.

00:08:07

And when Daniel interpreted the dream,

00:08:08

he plainly shared with the king that in the dream,

00:08:11

the gold represented himself, King Nebuchadnezzar.

00:08:14

But the other materials represented

00:08:16

all the other kingdoms that would come after him.

00:08:19

Until finally, a kingdom would come that would be

00:08:22

so powerful that it will crush all the other materials

00:08:25

and thus all the other kingdoms, including him.

00:08:29

And so like any big bully,

00:08:30

he really can't even fathom this.

00:08:32

He can't even think about the thought of losing

00:08:35

and putting up this statue is, by the way,

00:08:38

made of all gold, is his way of saying,

00:08:39

"My reign, my authority, that is never going to end."

00:08:45

His statue is deliberately contradicting

00:08:48

God's declared plan.

00:08:49

He's saying, "No, brah. No, no, no, no, no.

00:08:52

My kingdom? That's never going to stop.

00:08:54

No kingdoms are coming after me.

00:08:56

And in fact, that's scary dream, that never happened."

00:09:00

So he built a statue for the same reason.

00:09:03

I bullied Imani Newsome.

00:09:04

See, I was the second youngest child of seven

00:09:07

at the time, and I had nobody to boss,

00:09:10

only the opportunity to be bossed,

00:09:12

until I met Imani Newsome and I knew I could boss her.

00:09:16

See, I was insecure

00:09:17

about being the littlest in my own home.

00:09:20

So I chose to make someone else feel small.

00:09:23

And I couldn't just be insecure.

00:09:25

I had to do something about it.

00:09:28

So King Nebuchadnezzar, he does something about it.

00:09:31

He declares this deadly decree.

00:09:34

And he makes sure that all Babylon's elite

00:09:36

and all the important people are there to see it.

00:09:39

See, he actually doesn't care about them

00:09:41

just seeing his really beautiful statue.

00:09:44

He wants to test their allegiance to him.

00:09:47

He wants them, and actually everybody, to worship it

00:09:51

when they hear music.

00:09:53

In verse six it says:

00:10:01

King Nebuchadnezzar was saying,

00:10:03

"You will appease my insecurities and worship me.

00:10:06

And by the way, if you don't,

00:10:08

I've got this big, deadly plan

00:10:11

to bully you into doing it."

00:10:14

He's giving everybody a very clear choice: bow or die?

00:10:19

And here's where our main characters enter the story.

00:10:23

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego won't be bullied,

00:10:26

and they teach us something

00:10:27

about standing up to our own bullies.

00:10:30

For the most part, King Nebuchadnezzar

00:10:32

is getting exactly what he wants.

00:10:34

His insecurities are laid to rest

00:10:36

as people all around him are hearing the music,

00:10:38

and when they hear it,

00:10:40

they literally stop whatever they're doing

00:10:42

and bow to worship this gold image.

00:10:44

So if you're frying chicken or cutting hair, guess what?

00:10:47

The chicken doesn't get finished being fried

00:10:48

and your hair is just not getting cut that day

00:10:50

because it's time to bow.

00:10:52

Now, if you know the story, then you know what's coming.

00:10:54

And if you don't know the story, I'm going to tell you.

00:10:58

The three Hebrew boys, as some people call

00:11:00

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, they simply don't bow.

00:11:05

And actually they don't make a show of it.

00:11:08

See, they aren't looking to make some giant statement.

00:11:11

They aren't interested in holding a press conference

00:11:13

or posting it on Tik Tok or Instagram.

00:11:15

They actually aren't looking to be seen at all.

00:11:19

They are simply following the ways

00:11:21

of their Jewish culture.

00:11:23

I think today, when we see people

00:11:24

standing up to bullies,

00:11:25

standing up for things that they believe are right,

00:11:27

they do it with this intention to craft

00:11:30

just the right message

00:11:32

so it'll piss just the right amount of people off

00:11:34

to create just enough outrage that will have people

00:11:37

making a big following so that everyone

00:11:40

who disagrees with them will feel awful.

00:11:43

See, but Shadrack, Meshack and Abednego,

00:11:45

they have a different approach.

00:11:47

Their resistance to the bully

00:11:49

isn't actually about rallying others up

00:11:51

and getting as many people as they can

00:11:53

to be on their bandwagon and agree with them

00:11:55

and make others feel terrible.

00:11:57

These three guys are doing it just for themselves,

00:12:00

not for the sake of other people,

00:12:02

and not for the sake of being seen.

00:12:05

They're doing it because they know it's right.

00:12:09

They're committed to serving the true God,

00:12:11

and they show it by not bowing.

00:12:14

You see, in fact, their acts would have

00:12:16

probably went entirely unnoticed

00:12:18

if it wasn't for their haters.

00:12:21

The Bible tells us that there were certain Chaldeans,

00:12:24

which basically just means like a magician

00:12:26

or a powerful leader at the time,

00:12:28

who maliciously accused Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.

00:12:32

And they went and they snitched to the king.

00:12:34

They said, "Oh, king, live forever.

00:12:37

You, oh king, have made a decree that every man

00:12:40

who hears every kind of music should fall down

00:12:43

and worship the golden image.

00:12:45

There are certain Jews whom you've appointed,

00:12:48

by the way, over the affairs of the province of Babylon:

00:12:51


00:12:54

These men, oh king, they pay no attention to you.

00:12:57

They don't serve your gods

00:12:58

or worship the golden image that you've set up."

00:13:02

And I see the haters just came out of the woodwork.

00:13:05

And they didn't just come,

00:13:06

they actually had a malicious motive.

00:13:08

They were looking for a promotion

00:13:10

and some political gain.

00:13:12

They're hating on the position

00:13:13

of Shadrach, Meschach, and Abednego.

00:13:15

And they're looking actually to hopefully

00:13:17

get them killed, likely so they can take their position.

00:13:21

See, I bet some of us can relate

00:13:23

to Shadrach, Meschach, and Abednego in this moment,

00:13:26

because here we are minding our business,

00:13:28

doing our thing and haters just come

00:13:31

trying to mess with things.

00:13:33

So after the haters have snitched,

00:13:35

this insecure king is furious and he demands to see

00:13:40

the three Hebrew boys and he threatens their life.

00:13:42

He reminds them that if you don't bow,

00:13:45

you will be thrown into an unforgiving flame.

00:13:48

He's saying, bow or die.

00:13:52

Now the king in his pride, he asked them,

00:13:54

"Who is the God who will deliver you out of my hands?"

00:13:58

In that moment, they don't shake.

00:14:00

They don't buckle. They don't get fearful.

00:14:02

They look directly in the bully's, I imagine,

00:14:05

and they say to him:

00:14:32

Now, King Nebuchadnezzar wasn't mad before this moment,

00:14:35

he is livid right now

00:14:37

because these guys are literally embarrassing him.

00:14:40

They're not just denouncing his power and saying,

00:14:43

"I don't care what you do, we're not bowing."

00:14:45

They're doing it in front of everyone,

00:14:47

the whole Met Gala people is right there

00:14:50

to watch him denounce the power,

00:14:52

and they're saying, "Whatcha gonna to do about it?"

00:14:55

He's got something to prove.

00:14:56

Now the three Hebrew boys, their response, it's so bold.

00:15:00

It is. It's bold.

00:15:02

But the kicker about that moment

00:15:04

is not just the bold response, it's that

00:15:07

it wasn't the moment that the Hebrew boys

00:15:09

had decided that they will be committed to God

00:15:12

and not bow to the king.

00:15:14

See, they had to decide that they believed

00:15:17

in God's power long before the moment came,

00:15:20

or they would have easily bowed in the moment.

00:15:23

I want to set this up for you.

00:15:24

You've got a scary king right here. I mean, scary.

00:15:28

Your boss, in fact, who can chop your head off

00:15:32

and then you've got a fire that you can see

00:15:34

and smell, and it's real.

00:15:37

See, in our own lives when we're standing between

00:15:40

being committed to God and bowing to

00:15:43

whatever is the cultural flavor of the month

00:15:45

or whatever is the pressure that we're currently facing,

00:15:49

if we've not already decided that we will be

00:15:52

a believer of God and His power,

00:15:54

more than the world's power, we're going to bow.

00:16:00

I know we will probably all like to think,

00:16:02

"Oh, my gosh, like, no, absolutely not,

00:16:04

that's not going to be me.

00:16:05

I would totally stand up for God.

00:16:07

I'm all for Jesus. He's like, and I love him."

00:16:10

Let me tell you, like I said,

00:16:11

when you're standing between that furious king

00:16:15

and that very visible blazing furnace,

00:16:18

it's real easy to forget

00:16:20

that you want to stand up for an invisible God.

00:16:24

See, I told you the story about how I had missed my shot

00:16:27

to stand up to a bully in high school

00:16:30

because when I was in the hot seat,

00:16:32

the pressure was actually too much

00:16:34

to make the decision in that moment.

00:16:37

The picture that I'm trying to paint here

00:16:39

is that Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego,

00:16:41

they were not superhuman with super faith.

00:16:44

They simply had made their minds up that

00:16:46

they were going to serve God no matter what, and

00:16:48

they made it up long before they were faced with the fire.

00:16:53

Their story teaches us that

00:16:54

if we don't prepare ahead of time

00:16:57

to stand up to the bully, we will bow.

00:17:03

- Hey, quick interruption to tell you

giving is a critical spiritual act.

00:17:07

I'm going to tell you exactly why in under 30 seconds.

00:17:10

You know giving us something we do to honor God.

00:17:13

It's a discipline that we must work to develop

00:17:15

because it's something that exposes our heart to God,

00:17:18

tells Him kind of where we're at.

00:17:20

And if you want to take the step

00:17:21

of showing your heart to God and say,

00:17:23

"Yes, I want to give.

00:17:24

I want to honor You in that way, God,"

00:17:26

Now back to the message.

- Maybe some of us are being faced with fire right now even.

00:17:36

Maybe some of us are in situations

00:17:38

that feel like a rock and a hard place,

00:17:40

or between a furious king and a hot fire.

00:17:44

And we're just not sure what to do.

00:17:47

I told you myself, I got about four bullies

00:17:49

that I'm currently dealing with.

00:17:50

And my buliies, they don't look like King Nebuchadnezzar.

00:17:53

In fact, they don't even talk,

00:17:55

but they do look like anxiety around my health.

00:17:57

They do look like fear of the health

00:17:59

of my young nephew who needs a life changing surgery.

00:18:02

They do look like anger and like pride,

00:18:05

and these bullies, all of them are screaming.

00:18:07

They want me to bow.

00:18:09

They're all looking for me to bow to him

00:18:12

and forget that God was ever faithful.

00:18:16

Whatever your bullies are,

00:18:18

I want to encourage you, don't bow.

00:18:22

And here's what helps us do that:

00:18:24

prepping ahead of time.

00:18:26

And we do that by building our faith through God's Word

00:18:29

and having the courage to believe.

00:18:33

The three Hebrew boys had courage to believe,

00:18:36

not because, like I said,

00:18:37

they were some superhuman Christians,

00:18:39

not because they had everything together,

00:18:41

but simply because they had seen God do things before

00:18:46

and they knew He was able.

00:18:48

They had probably already lived

00:18:50

full lives of faithfulness, but they also came from

00:18:54

a long line of people, the Jewish nation,

00:18:57

who had watched God do the impossible.

00:19:01

I want you to take a second to look back

00:19:03

and think back over your own life.

00:19:06

Think back and look back and see if you can find

00:19:08

the places where God has absolutely shown up

00:19:11

and been good.

00:19:12

Whether you've been walking with Jesus for a long time,

00:19:15

whether you're thinking about this Jesus thing,

00:19:17

you don't even know what you believe.

00:19:18

This still applies to you.

00:19:19

I want you to take a second and think about

00:19:22

if any of the good moments in your life

00:19:24

you can attribute to God's goodness.

00:19:26

And if you can't think about your own life,

00:19:28

think about the life of your friends or your neighbors.

00:19:31

Where has God been good?

00:19:34

I had a mentor once, a good one at that,

00:19:37

who told me that sometimes we get spiritual amnesia.

00:19:41

And what she was talking about was not real amnesia,

00:19:44

but she was saying we can forget the goodness

00:19:47

and faithfulness of God.

00:19:49

See, when we remember God's faithfulness,

00:19:52

it gives us this courage to believe,

00:19:54

it builds our faith.

00:19:55

So something practical that I do

00:19:57

is I just write all the good things that God has done,

00:20:00

I write them down.

00:20:02

I just keep this running list

00:20:03

that I start at the beginning of the year

00:20:05

so that any time I'm actually discouraged,

00:20:07

any time I'm down, any time I'm facing my bully,

00:20:09

I look at that list and I remember

00:20:11

that God has actually been good.

00:20:12

He's actually been faithful.

00:20:14

Another thing I do is I read my Bible.

00:20:17

And it sounds really simple, but it's actually

00:20:20

a book full of the stories of God's faithfulness.

00:20:23

And you know what?

00:20:24

You see, when we do these things,

when we do these things, although they seem simple,

it builds our faith

and it gives us the courage to believe.

It reminds us that God's power, and it gives us a chance

to stand in the face of the fire

00:20:49

and not to bow to the loudest and the angriest

00:20:52

and even the scariest of our bullies.

00:20:54

And if you're like me, it gives us the courage

00:20:56

to stand despite what other people think about you.

00:21:01

And it even makes us choose death,

00:21:03

rather than bowing to something we know is wrong.

00:21:06

So let's hurry up, and let's get to the good part.

00:21:08

So the king gets really mad and he's, like, going crazy.

00:21:11

He's like, "Oh my gosh, like, can't believe

00:21:13

that you're not going to bow."

00:21:15

But he's not just mad because they won't bow.

00:21:16

He's especially mad because they're choosing to,

00:21:19

like I said, defy him in front of all his elite friends.

00:21:22

So he gets so mad that he's like,

00:21:24

"Let's turn the heat up.

00:21:25

Let's turn the fire seven times hotter."

00:21:28

And this fire is so hot that

00:21:30

the people who are guarding the fire, they die.

00:21:33

Can you imagine, like, getting dressed for work that day?

00:21:36

Like, "Oh, putting on my little guard thing.

00:21:37

I'm about to join the service

00:21:39

and I'm going to serve the king."

00:21:40

You did not expect to die by the fire

00:21:43

that wasn't even meant to kill you.

00:21:45

But that's how hot this fire is

00:21:47

because the king wants to make sure

00:21:48

that these disobedient delinquents are killed.

00:21:52

But spoiler alert: they don't die.

00:21:55

In fact, the Bible is certain to note that

00:21:58

they were bound up in ropes in all of their clothing.

00:22:01

But when they come out of the fire,

00:22:03

not a single thing on them is burned,

00:22:05

not even their hair, and they don't smell like smoke.

00:22:09

And that seems crazy.

00:22:10

But what's even crazier is what happens next,

00:22:13

because King Nebuchadnezzar is so pleased,

00:22:15

he's so amazed that their God has saved them,

00:22:18

that he issues this violent decree

00:22:20

that anybody who speaks against the God

00:22:22

of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, you know what?

00:22:25

I've got news for you: You're going to be ruined.

00:22:27

In fact, I'm going to tear you limb to limb.

00:22:30

And that's really violent.

00:22:31

And after that, he promotes them again.

00:22:35

And they become even bigger, more powerful bosses

00:22:38

than they already were.

00:22:40

God uses this moment to boss up

00:22:42


00:22:44

See, what their haters intended to be their downfall

00:22:47

was actually their promotion.

00:22:49

God uses this moment to shine

00:22:52

through the three Hebrew boys,

00:22:54

and not just so that they haters could see it.

00:22:56

Not just so King Nebuchadnezzar can see it,

00:22:58

but so that all the powerful people

00:23:00

of the Land of Babylon get to see it.

00:23:02

And they all get to see God's power

00:23:04

through Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.

00:23:08

See, they chose to stand,

settled in their own convictions,

believing in the power of God.

And the impossible happened for everybody to see.

Listen, I don't want to fool you.

Sometimes God will allow us to be tested

and even tempted with our biggest bullies.

00:23:26

But when we are faithful to God

00:23:29

in the face of difficulty, our scariest moments,

He turns around and He blesses us.

00:23:37

The pressures of life are real.

00:23:40

And sometimes they put us

00:23:41

in these really tight situations,

00:23:43

situations that make us want to bow

00:23:45

and to give in to whatever our pressing circumstance

00:23:48

is in the moment.

00:23:49

Situations that make us forget all about

00:23:52

the goodness and faithfulness of God.

And maybe you're like me and you feel like,

"Man, I've actually already failed because

I was given the opportunity to stand up for Jesus,

and I choked."

But I've got good news for all of us.

This story reminds us that even when we're facing haters

and bullies, and even when all the odds are against us

and there's pressure on every side.

And yes, even when we feel like we've disappointed God,

we can take a look back at God's faithfulness

and have the courage to stand and believe in His power.

And when we do this, God does impossible things.

When we respond to the challenge

of standing in the face of the impossible circumstances,

with faith and with courage, God shows up.

And then he doesn't just show up.

He bosses us up, y'all.

He promotes us, takes us to the next level in Him,

teaches us something new, and He moves on our behalf.

And this happens when we have the courage

to face our biggest bullies by preparing ahead of time

and being sure that we know,

that we know that we know that God is able.

You remember Imani Newsome, you know,

she never actually stood up to me to my face.

But even in the face of all of my four year old threats,

she had the courage to do something else.

She told our teacher, believe it or not.

And guess what? It made a difference.

Now, we never became friends,

but she knew something that I didn't.

When we have the courage to stand up to our bullies,

our lives change for the better.

And the best news is we don't have to do it alone.

God is able and He will help us.
